No.01 Regular Slotted Container (RSC)
Also called shipping boxes, RSCs are the most commonly used boxes.
They are usually kraft brown in color, and the side walls are sealed at one corner known as the "Manufacturer's Joint." This design is highly functional for most packing applications.
All flaps have the same length, and the two outer flaps (normally the lengthwise flaps) are one-half the container’s width, so that they meet at the center of the box when folded. This is a highly efficient design. There is a very little manufacturing waste.
The RSC can be used for most products, and is the most common box style. If the product requires a flat, even bottom surface, or the protection of two full layers, a fill-in pad can be placed between the two inner flaps.
No.02 Half Slotted Container (HSC)
A variation of the RSC, the Half Slotted Carton has only one set of flaps. The opposite side of the box is completely open, allowing it to slide over an item. Envision the use of the box turned over so that the flaps are on the top. The covered item is usually attached to a pallet or other type of surface that serves as a separate bottom.
These boxes are frequently used for both shipping and shelf storage, or other applications where the cover must be removed and replaced frequently.
No.03 Overlap Slotted Container (OSC)
This style of slotted corrugated carton is similar to the regular slotted container, except that the outer flaps overlap a specified amount but not less then 1 inch. The inner flaps do not meet.
This box is easily closed, usually with staples driven through the overlap area. This style is used when the relationship between length and width results in an excessively long gap between the inner flaps, making it desirable to overlap the outer flaps to prevent them from spreading apart.
No.04 Full overlap Slotted Container (FOL)
All flaps have the same length (the width of the box). When closed, the outer flaps come within one inch of complete overlap.
This style is especially resistant to rough handling. Stacked on its bottom panel, the overlapping flaps provide added cushioning. Stacked on its side, the extra thickness provides stacking strength.
No.05 Center Special Slotted Container (CSSC)
International Box Code: 0204
Inner and outer flaps are cut to different lengths. Both sets of flaps meet at the center of the box. This style is especially strong because both the top and bottom have double the thickness of corrugated board. The inner flaps, with no gap, provide a level base for products.
A variation of the center special slotted box is the side special slotted box- SSS. In this box, all the flaps also meet, but not at the center.
No.06 Center Special Overlap Slotted Container (CSO)
International Box Code: 0205
All flaps have the same length (one-half the length of the box). The length of the box can be no more than twice its width. The inner flaps meet at the center of the box, providing a level base and full top protection and outer flaps overlap at random.
This corrugated box is similar to the overlap slotted box, except that the inner flaps meet at the center of the box and the outer flaps overlap at random. This style is used when more protection to the contents is desired than is afforded by the overlap slotted box and where a level rest is desired for the contents of the box.
