Carton box design and its molding process

Carton box belongs to one of the paper packaging, it has three major functions namely protection, use and promotion function, it also has good processing performance, easy molding, forming and filling process is easy to adapt mechanization and automation, speed production etc., carton box is a recyclable green packaging widely used around the world.

The carton box is not just the goods packaging, there should be a strong artistic, so the carton box design should be carried out in accordance with the principles of scientific, reliable, attractive, durable principles. Designers should scientifically design the internal and external structure of the carton box according to the characteristics of packaging products, environment and user requirements, and other factors, it is necessary to reflect the loading, protective, ease of use and display function of the carton box, but also to consider the personality of the overall effect, structure modeling and graphic design.

During the carton box design, it should first meet the overall design requirements which means the main surfaces of the carton box should meet most consumers open habit. Secondly, we should take into account the relationship between the carton box structure design, shape design and graphic design, it means the structure design based on the packaged product characteristics, environmental factors, and user requirements, rationally design the lid, bottom, adhesive flaps, dust flaps and other components. It is necessary to meet the overall design principles and coordinate with the shape and graphic design requirements. During shape and decoration design, it should be starting from an aesthetic point of view, emphasizing on the display features of the carton packaging. In addition, the size and strength design is also important part in the carton box design, it not only affects the appearance and quality of the carton box, but also related to the production and circulation costs.

According to the molding process the carton box can be divided into folding carton and glued carton. Folding cartons are usually a thin cardboard (thickness 0.3 ~ 1.1mm) after cutting and creasing, folding, flat-shaped folded for transport and storage before the merchandise is loaded. The advantage of the folding carton is low production and circulation cost, suitable for medium and large volume production, flexible structural change, but its strength is low. The glued carton is laminated veneer material with cardboard, it can not be folded into a flat plate-shaped, and only transported and stored with stationary casing. With good anti-pierce and fighting performance, the glued carton is rigid than the general folding carton,but the labor intensity of the production staff, the production speed is low, thus the cost is high and it is suitable for precious commodities.

The production process of the carton box are different for different structure. In the folding carton production process, die cutting and printing process affect the most on the quality of the carton box. If the die cutting is poor, it will affect the precise molding of the folding carton and even cause the waste of material, if the printing quality is bad, it will affect the beauty of the folding carton and the its promotion function. Therefore, it should pay particular attention to the accuracy of the die cutting and printing in the folding carton production process. In the glued carton production process, the gluing process affect the quality of the box the most, The gluing requires the angles and the decoration sticky firmly, and there's no bubbles, flat and smooth. The logo and pattern position should be accurate. Now the gluing process can be done via the gluing machine in lots of packaging companies.
