How to grasp the skills in product packaging design?

Now a lot of product packaging could not convince the customers, so that they are not satisfied, even bored, which has a direct impact on the sales of goods. Under the cruel market competition conditions it is a deterrent for both businesses and manufacturers which means it affects the economic benefits of businesses or manufacturers basically. Due to the basic quality of the product packaging designer and their skills limited into certain range, thus leading to the taste of the product packaging design degraded. While the taste of the packaging design is mainly how to grasp the skills of product packaging design. It mainly includes 3 points: color, composition and culture.

1 Color Skills

The designer should pay attention to the color skills: Firstly,he should take care of the relationship between color and product; secondly, he should know the contrast between colors. They are the key points of grasping the color skills.

(1) The relationship between color and product How to start the relationship between color and product? It should be able to reveal or reflect the inner items by the external packaging color. Make people be able to basically perceive or think of the inner packaging of the mass when they take a glance of the external packaging. If we take a look on the shelf of the store, a lot of goods can not reflect this relationship so that consumers can not think of the mass of product packaging from outside to inside. Of course, there will be play a negtive promotional role. The normal color of the external packaging should grasp this characteristics in different degrees. For example, it usually use green color in tea packaging which mean the rich and aromatic of the tea, tomato juice, apple juice with a red color showed that the natural attributes of the items.

(2) The contrast between colors This is most likely to exhibit many product packaging but very difficult to grasp skills. There's an old saying in Chinese calligraphy and painting to decrib the lines thick enough which the wind can not go, thin enough for the horse to run. Actually it is a contrast. In product packaging design, this contrast is very obvious and very common. These so-called contrast, generally have the following contrast: the contrast between the color depth and light, the severity of light and heavy, the contrast between points to sides and so on.

① Depth of color contrast. The most frequently used and the widely ranged color skills in product packaging design. It means the depth of two colors at the same time subtly appear in one screen with more coordinated perspective.

The color of the severity of contrast. It's another important color skills in product packaging design. It usually comes with the light elegance of the background to bring out the solemn deep motif, or in a dignified deep motif.

2. Composition Skills

Just like the color skills, the composition skills are varied, the relationship between the two skills are interdependent. Color is basis while the composition process is the ultimate goal. Besides to grasp certain skills in the process, but also need to pay attention to its visual effects, the result is the ultimate purpose.

In addition to grasp the color comparison skills, serval contrast need to be considered in composition skills. Such as the thickness contrast, proximity contrast, density contrast, static and dynamic contrast, Chinese and Western contrast, ancient and modern contrast etc..

3. Cultural Connotation

In short, the skills of packaging design, in addition to the color, graphic aspects and the cultural connotations need to grasp,designers also need to learn from life, understand the needs and aspirations of the consumers, the practicality of life to the people. Only in this way, product packaging design can be continuously improved to the new level, raising it to the new taste, it can play an important positive role in promoting the market economy conditions merchandising.
